An obsession
with light.
Flare was born from months of research, driven by a shared fascination for light. Since the beginning of Douze Degrés, we've explored objects that capture, transform, or reveal it — whether scientific, poetic, or somewhere in between.
This journey began with an installation for Cercle Music in Switzerland, and has since been shaped by a collective imaginary: lighthouses, Fresnel lenses, the ocean, and above all, a living light.
Exploring to understand.
We experimented with this light in many environments: in the studio, in the mist, along the coast, facing the elements. We traveled to Brittany to observe lighthouses up close, study their mechanisms, their reach, and how they alter perception.
Flare emerged from these explorations — an attempt to bring that distant, untouchable light into a domestic object. A single flame becomes a signal, a halo, a living light that transforms space.
